Tropon - HENRY VAN DE VELDE - lithograph printed in colors

HENRY VAN DE VELDE
Belgian, (1863-1957)

Lithograph printed in colors, 1897 (printed 1898), edition 1100 from Pan, Volume 4, No.1. 12 1/4 x 8 in. Signed below the image with his name in printed text, as issued. This is a very good impression with full margins. The condition is very good apart from time toning to the outer edges of the sheet and a tiny blemish in the image near the bottom center. Printed by Leutert & Schneidewind, Dresden. Published by Genossenschaft Pan GmbH, Berlin. This captivating, iconic art nouveau image is a reduced version of the large poster van de Velde created of a rather mundane subject; an advertisement for the Tropon food supplement, a protein processed from eggs. After much research, it's been determined that the image depicts a machine which is shown separating the egg yolks (on top) from the whites (on the bottom).      $900
