Wood engraving (woodcut?), circa 1913, small edition. 6 3/8 x 6 3/8 in. Signed in pencil and also inscribed "proefdruk." This is a fine impression of an uncommon print. This is the full, untrimmed sheet with a deckle edge all around. The condition is fine other than minor paper imperfections, one in the blank area at left, and an old fold in the lower margin. This important portrait is illustrated on page 16 of Theo van Hoytema 1863-1917, the 1999 exhibition catalogue for the Drents Museum/Gemeentemuseum show about the artist. An impression of this work is located in the Rijksmuseum collection.

Woodcut printed in colors, circa 1931, edition unknown. 19 3/8 x 13 5/8 in. Initialed in the block and signed and titled in pencil. A superb impression of this rare print. The margins are wide and the condition is fine. (There's a small repair to the upper right margin corner.) Verstijnen started out as a glass and ceramic designer in Gouda and then Maastricht. He later established himself in the Hague (1918) at the Pulchri Studio and with "Haagse Kunstkring" and specialized in printmaking and paintings of floral and animal subjects. An important retrospective exhibition was held in 2006-07 at the Drents Museum and also at the Museum Mestag, both in Holland. His large woodcuts are exceptional and also quite rare. Flamingos was printed from four blocks and is so inscribed.

The margins are full and the condition is very good. (There are traces of old hinges at the four margin corners.) Verstijnen started out as a glass and ceramic designer in Gouda and then Maastricht. The margins are full and the condition is fine. Visser lived and worked in Amsterdam, and after 1927, he resided in Haarlem where this work was done. He was Director of de Vrije Haarlemse Schilderschool for many years and a member of "Arti et Amicitiae." HIs work is in multiple museum collections including the Frans Hals Museum and the Teylers Museum.

Voskuijl lived and worked in the Hague. He was a superb lithographer and used a dotted technique which is highly unusual for this medium.

The condition is fine and the margins are full. Voskuijl studied at the Akademie in the Hague with Cees Bolding and Arend Hendriks. This compelling image typifies the artist's interest in realism tweaked with an element of mystery.

(Fain discoloration within a previous mat opening. Wiegers was an important member of the Dutch group "De Ploeg". He was friendly with Kirchner and they were neighbors in Davos. This is possibly a portrait of fellow artist Coosje van Haersolte.

The margins are wide and the condition is good. This large woodcut is illustrated on page 131 of the 2002 Groninger Museum retrospective catalog of Wiegers work, "De Ceremoniemeester Heeft Het Spel Laten Beginnen." This is a later printing from the block, probably done in the 1950s.

The margins are full and the condition is excellent. This intense etching mirrors Wiegers's powerful and dynamic work in the woodcut medium. He worked closely with Kirchner in Davos, Switzerland, and Wiegers's prints during the 1920s are an important chapter in the history of 20th century Dutch graphic art. The Dutch expressionist movement, known as "de Ploeg," flourished largely due to this Davos connection between Kirchner and Wiegers. Many other artists followed suite as the expressionist movement was clearly not confined to any precise geographical borders. In Holland, the movement was based in Groningen.

The margins are somewhat narrow and there's a small, skillfully repaired tear in the upper right corner margin not affecting the image. Witsen specialized in these compelling, beautifully rendered views of Amsterdam and other Dutch cities. His work was popular at the time and his publisher was E.J. van Wisselingh & Co., Amsterdam. Witsen was also a gifted painter and photographer.

Signed in pencil, lower right, and numbered in pencil, lower left. Here we have a rich, moody, atmospheric impression which is so typical of Witsen's work. (His paintings, too, tend to be somewhat somber.) The paper is a heavy laid without a watermark. The margins are full and the condition is fine. Witsen did four views of Damrak during this 1905-06 period. Today the Damrak is a partially filled in canal between Centraal Station and Dam Square.

Wittenberg produced woodcuts as well as wood engravings. He depicted animal subjects in a creative and often decorative manner reflecting to some extent the work of Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita.

This is a fine delicate impression printed on thin China paper. The margins are probably full and the condition is quite good. Wittenberg was a gifted draughsman and excelled in woodcut, lithography and painting. He lived and worked primarily in the Hague and Dordrecht. His work is found in many museums including the Rijksmuseum, the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen and the Gemeentemuseum.

The condition is very good other than for slight wrinkling in the outer margins here and there. Exquisitely rendered, this lovely print reflects Wittenberg's great skills as a draughtsman. Birds and animals were typical subjects and he was equally well-versed in the woodcut medium.

Wolvens was a gifted painter and printmaker who loved to depict beach scenes near Oostende. He was born in Brussels but settled permanently in Bruges in 1930. He was influenced by James Ensor in both style and subject. Other etchings by Wolvens are currently available.
